If You Only Knew

Music speaks to my soul. It always has.  If you don’t have music in your life, then I’m so very sorry for you…..

Today I was listening to Out of Eden’s “If You Really Knew”, for about the 100th time, but not in a long time.   It was different today…I actually listened to the words of the song.

You know how it is when you hear a familiar song, but only know a few words to it?  The rest of the time you just mumble sing or just make up what you think the words might be.  In my case, there might be a little bit of dancing going on too…..

Anyway, as I was saying…..I really listened this time.  Here is my take on the song as it relates to my life.  If you were to listen to it, you might get a totally different message.  Feedback is always welcome.

Why are we so hesitant to talk about God these days?  We see the need so desperately, especially at such a divisive time as this.   Are we afraid of saying the wrong thing and appearing weak?  Do we go back in time when a “religious” parent, friend or strangers actions left you feeling anything but peaceful and loving?

Have you encountered so-called Christians who use religious justification for the hatred or bigotry they spread?  Shame on them….  Bad experiences with “religious” people tend to make us highly judgmental of the hypocrisy, later on in our lives.   Hearing them say one thing and seeing them live another pushes our skeptical buttons.

However, hypocrites are everywhere….matter of fact we’ve all been guilty, at one time or another…haven’t we?   It doesn’t matter if we’re Christian or not…we have all fallen short….  There’s only been one perfect man on earth.   To be perfectly honest with you, I believe religion is manmade and serves no purpose but to divide us.

But, you know what?  That’s not what the God I know is all about.  If you really knew, you’d turn around….right toward Him!

You’d change your mind if you would get to know the God I know.  When I feel His presence my soul soars.  When I realize how many times a day He forgives me, it overwhelms me and makes me wonder why He puts up with me.

Thankfully, His mercies are new every morning.  If you only knew…His love for you is enough.  Invite Him to pick you up and walk you in the direction He wants you to go.

Spirituality, not religion, is a one-on-one personal relationship between us and God.  It’s where we can just be us.  We don’t feel like we have to perform for God.  He loves us just as we are.  Amazing Grace!!!!

So, how can I talk to someone about God when I lead such an imperfect life?  What if they see me acting like less than a joyful, peaceful, loving Christian…once they get to know me?

Duh….God already sees me & all my imperfections…..which are way too many to list.  Could it be that’s what His grace is all about?  I’m so very thankful for His undeserved favor.   It’s time to stop hiding behind fear!

Open your eyes.  Ask the Holy Spirit to live, love, speak and think through you.  Read His word….And, you too will change your mind once you know the God I know.  You might even “find everything you need in love, of another kind…..”
