As I sit on my porch today and reflect on days gone by, I get a little melancholy thinking about the many Easters spent with my late husband. I close my eyes for a moment and feel such peace and thankfulness for the years we had together.
I look up and notice the sky. It’s baby blue with a few wispy clouds slowing drifting by in the breeze. The only sounds right now are the wind, a variety of birds and frogs and an occasional lawn mower off in the distance. The brilliant shades of green of new growth on the trees are almost blinding.
The myriad of trees seem to be rejoicing on this Easter day as the branches sway to and fro with the heavenly breeze. Such peace….I couldn’t have wished for a more perfect day.
The breath taking beauty of this time of year always reminds me of why we celebrate Jesus, His death and resurrection. Nature itself reminds us that rebirth is possible. Some of you have much longer winters than we here in Texas. But, we all eventually see the majestic beauty that springs forth from dead looking plants and or trees….into new life.
After the darkness of winter has passed, again not necessarily in Texas, don’t the first signs of spring put a little pep in your step? It’s a sign of hope, new birth and new chances.
Don’t take this time of year for granted. It passes too quickly and then the heat’s on….for 10 months, in my neck of the world. Now is the time to take advantage of that new pep in our step.
We have to keep climbing to the next step, always forward. That’s what He wants for us. And, if you’re honest with yourself, you want it for yourself too. The past is nice to visit occasionally, but don’t live there.
Stagnation, inaction or a lack of progress is a dead end street. It might as well be the dark of winter twelve months a year. If you discover that you haven’t even noticed the spring colors yet, or if you have and they didn’t stir any hope in you, you may be depressed. I guess you could be color blind….but that’s a whole other story.
Pull your head out, hold it up and look around. Notice the gifts we’ve been allowed to see and enjoy. The flowers, the trees, the birds, the butterflies….just to name a few.
God’s creation is a beauty to behold. If you haven’t taken notice of it in a while, get your mind off of yourself for a bit and thank Him for the gifts. He’ll open your eyes.
Happy Easter Y’all….. He is Risen!
